O Scale Western Maryland J-1 Potomac 4-8-4 Northern type

Here is a model of a handsome and modern engine that was built very late in the steam era, January of 1947 to be exact by the Baldwin Locomotive Company. It has unique appearance created by a larger boiler for good and easy steaming capacity, 69 inch drivers for dual service either freight or passenger, an all weather enclosed cab for crew comfort and roller bearings all around. The model faithfully captures every detail with quality castings and excellent workmanship plus a quiet and smooth easy rolling drive. The vestibule between the engine and the tender looks and works perfectly. The valve gear changes position with the direction change of a model and includes the power reverse mechanism and control rod to the cab. All axles are sprung and the gearbox is concealed in the frame. No gearbox showing out of the bottom of the boiler to ruin the appearance. The mechanism rolls easily allowing the model to roll over dirty track with no jerkiness or hesitation. Current draw is less than 1 amp under normal conditions. The mechanism allows the operator to drive the train with the engine changing speed with the change in load but maintaining absolute control. This engine will not roll backwards with a heavy train when going uphill and the power is turned off. It is extremely satisfying to watch the model as it displays the characteristics of a real engine. The motor is a ball bearing modified Pittman and ball bearing axle gearbox. The basic mechanism components follow the tried and proven Japanese mechanism with Korean state of the art detail. The quality of the finish and castings is apparent in the photos. The models are offered painted and unpainted with glass in the windows, marker jewels, kadee couplers installed, lubricated and ready to run. The mechanism is made, installed and tested here in the U.S.A. and the minimum radius is 72 inches. Price is $2500.00 painted and $2300.00 unpainted with shipping extra.
